I thought I remembered you taught school (maybe it was someone else, no
mater) Having taught computer science for 4 years for Central Texas
College (in Okinawa) There were many times I would give an assignment,
or task that had no real world equivalent. This was done to enforce a
concept I may have been trying to get across. You may want to think
about this possibility before you trash the instructor.
Having said that, I agree with everything else you said....
