Maybe you need a different password function? When you run install.sh,
try changing this options:
echo "Please select a password function:"
echo " 1: SHA1 (Use this for version 4.1 and later)"
echo " 2: PASSWORD (Use this for version below 4.1)"
echo " 3: OLD_PASSWORD (For versions above 4.1 when SHA1 fails)"
MySQL >= 4.1 should use 1. Sometimes you might need 3 depending on the
server configuration. 2 is for lower versions.
