I have it all working under Ubuntu (6.10 LTS): apache2 php5 mysql5 I had
similar problems as yours with PhPmyadmin2.8 it seemed to be a little bug
there but reinstalling it with synaptic package manager did it.
A link was put in /var/www
But for a total answer to your Q I'd recommend a mandriva group! there are
several on usenet and the community is very active
