Does the /tmp/traces dir exist?

What permissions does it have?

If you'll only be running cli stuff, then make sure you own it, and
chmod to 600(or 700 if necessary). If you're running webserver stuff,
then 660, and associate the webserver group with it(usually either
nobody, www-data, or apache), when you use apache.
