Well, a select box in MSIE (in any case < 7, not sure about 7) has kind of
it's own window/frame from a rendering standpoint, that's one of the
reasons we have this bug:

Which leads me to give up any hope of thoroughly changing the layout of
the thing. Maybe someone found a solution, I'm not aware of it.
