We do this via ODBC and it works okay.
Although why anyone would voluntarily choose Progress, I'm not sure.
The only reason we suffer through it is because it came as the backend
for some purchased software. If it's not too late to change your mind
(or if it's even possible), I'd definitely switch to something else.
