Many issues that aren't found by a DTD validator are listed here:

Most people would want to be aware of issues like those mentioned in the
above page, but if you only care about HTML being technically "valid" then
you could stick with the DTD validator in CSE HTML Validator or just use the
W3C validator.
Personally, I don't understand why someone who cares about validating
wouldn't also see the benefit of performing additional checks on their HTML
documents.
