Seems likely.

Try setting your browser/email reader to display the same page/email into a
different config. With Kmail, Konqueror and Firefox it's a breeze.

Just be very, very sure of what character encoding you're using. Keep track
of it, and look out for agents (web browsers) that post data in a different
encoding.
