Fair enough. However, for my application (where I use the microtime as
well), time repeats rather than being monotonic. For my application, it
would be possible that I get a duplicate (seconds, microtime) pair.

(seconds) is monotonic (I agree with you).

(seconds.microtime) is not monotonic.
