Free clue: YouTube *DOES NOT USE* On2 VP6, as that's only supported in
Flash 8/9. YouTube uses Flash 7, so encodes video in the "Sorenson Spark"
codec.
Since June 2007, YouTube has also encoded its videos in the higher-quality
H.264 codec, although it doesn't make these high-quality videos available
from its website: they're available through Apple TV and the iPhone.
In case you haven't heard of H.264, it's the codec used by HD-DVD, Blueray
and several digital HDTV providers.
Another free clue: Flash is not "the ONLY thing you'll be using to play
On2 VP6 video encoded for web use" -- FFmpeg can play it too. (And FFmpeg
is used as a backend library by several different media players and browser
plugins.)
