Learn CSS and ditch the layout tables. There's a lot more sheer volume
in that HTML than needs to be, if done efficiently, and that always
hurts when it comes time to change something.

Lose the <table> layout in favour of something done with floated block
elements (<div> or <li>), and have it be a bit smarter for varying
window sizes (including mobiles) so that the number of columns isn't
rigidly fixed.

You're not Google, you're not Wikipedia, so what are you offering? If
you have Google's content, you can look like crap. If you're not in
that league, you have to look nicer. If you aren't pitching _anything_
that I want and can't get more easily elsewhere, why am I going to
come visit?
If you're touting "cute time-wasters" these days, you really need to
address that small-screen mobile market.
