a SuSE orientated tutorial gives --with-apxs2 as:

--with-apxs2=/usr/sbin/apxs2-prefork

should this be this for you?:

--with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs2-prefork

if so, tada :-) heh you never know. otherwise read on.

but it maybe be built with numerous worker modules. is prefork
selected?

maybe its worth building a clean setup with an apache
src tree direct from apache?
