Do you think the ancient IE6 understands XHTML 1.1 ?

Modify it and use HTML 4.01 Strict.

Re your statement complaining about the 'template' having all the
content in a <div>, I would say it is up to you to add proper paragraphs
and so forth when you add your own content.

That includes not abusing <br/><br/> and more.
