Thanks, I got it work! I installed apache2-mod_php4 and while doing so stumbled upon libphp4.so, which was buried in /usr/lib/apache2-prefork. (Not
 sure why it didn't come up when I did "locate"). I modified httpd.conf to
 let Apache know where to find it, and it worked.
