$result=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM members
WHERE username="$_POST[username]"");
Your quotes are messed up, doing what sskaje said should fix your
problem.
$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM members WHERE username=`
$_POST['username']`");
That should fix your problem.
