Funny idea of professionalism... A GIF counter usually means that the
page owner used a "hit counter site". These sites are more or less
forced to do it graphically, because it's technically much simpler for
their users to embed an external GIF than text.

Using a "hit counter site" is a sure sign that the page designer cannot
make his own counter, so if you're trying to look "professional" a GIF
counter is really the worst choice IMO.

At least if it's text, it looks like something *you* made (and it
usually integrates better with your site). But I too think hit counters
are generally best avoided.
