comp.lang.php is the "official" PHP newsgroup, and supersedes the alt.* groups
which were created first. It also has the most traffic.
Most servers automatically add all the "Big-8" groups which includes all of
comp.* - coverage for alt.* groups tends to be less complete.
There may be some people who can't read the comp.lang.php group but that is
probably less likely than people not being able to read the alt.* groups. It's
preferable to just stick to comp.lang.php.
