I do read the tech news. I saw that just fine.
First of all, MySQL does not *require* InnoDB - only if you want certain
features like foreign keys and transaction support. It does quite well
for many developers and websites without InnoDB
Second, Oracle has indicated it is quite willing to renegotiate terms
with MySQL. If Oracle were to try to screw MySQL, the entire world
would know about it, and many would be upset with Oracle. In this case
it is in Oracle's best interest to be a good "corporate citizen", IMHO.
MySQL has been working on weaning itself from the InnoDB database
eventually. This has been a case where having InnoDB available has
allowed them to work on other features (such as triggers and stored
procedures). I am sure that if Oracle would be so stupid as to require
something so untenable, that MySQL would quickly shift their focus to
providing in their native code those things InnoDB supported.
And so - one guy I never heard of has a blog. Whoopee. Does he have
some special insight? I really don't think so.
And BTW - if you search the blogs, you can still find people who think
the earth is flat. I put exactly ZERO credibility to blogs without
supporting facts.
