 How about this:

 $total = ($mygrade/$quiz->grade) ;
 if ($total >= .80)  {
 </snippet>
 
 
 or this:
 
 <snippet>
 $total = ($mygrade/$quiz->grade) ;
 if ($total > .79)  {
