These seem to be hints for the googlebot to optimize the
parsing/interpretation/indexing of documents - did you try
<http://www.google.com/search?q=googleoff%3A+index> ??
I've seen similar comments (but regarding AdSense) mentioned on
<http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/blog/_archives/2005/12/15/1451538.html>,
but I was not able to find any 'official' documentation by Google on this
topic (though I have to tried too hard yet).
