Okay, I know when I'm licked. I withdraw my comment that the characters
that require an 8-bit byte can properly be considered part of ASCII.
Are you guys happy now?
I am not even sure that my interpretation of the original poster's
problem is correct. He had put "something" representing the "Registered
Trademark" symbol (agreed, he misidentified it as being "ascii") into
his database, and it undesirably turned itself into that symbol when
printed to his screen.
Do not take this the wrong way, but do you know what I think? (I know
you do not *care* what I think, but that is not what I asked.) I think
that you guys are experts in html, but you don't know a damn about cgi
programming. The original poster asked an off-topic question, so the
only way you could appear intelligent was to turn it into a
character-standards issue.
