Define "a lot of space". I have 17 versions[1] of Mozilla, Firefox, IE,
Netscape and Opera installed which represent milestones in features,
bugs and compliance (a couple can be removed, but I can't be bothered),
including a few that are obsolete[2]. In all, that's about 200MB which,
on a 8GB partition with the likes of Visual Studio .NET, is peanuts.

Lynx is licensed under the GNU public license. w3m is licensed under the
MIT license. Both are free and open source.

That situation is the reality for most developers, so you do what you
should do even if IE weren't dominant: develop for all browsers to the
best of your ability.

[1] 18 including IE6 SP2, but that's part of the OS.
[2] I keep them just to make sure something under test doesn't
break them.
