Whatever the cause, it has been corrected. Shortly after making the
attempts, and posting the question here, the internet went "out" in at
least this area. I'm an Earthlink subscriber by cable through
Brighthouse. The problem was so bad that Brighthouse's phones were
bypassed to one of those "All circuits are busy" messages.
Service came back this morning, and I had to re-set my connection. In
the meantime, I took down the version previously ftp'd up. I re-ftp'd
the page up today and the new version works fine.
Thanks for the attempts to help. "Wonky internet" was not among the
solutions, but who'dathought?
