Perhaps because in some parts of the UK, the majority of the population
speak that language. If the children weren't taught it, people would point
at them and laugh.
In Gwynedd for example, 76% of the population speak Welsh. Even in
is-it-part-of-Wales-is-it-part-of-England Monmouthshire, more than one in
eight people speak Welsh.
