I prefer to avoid politics on newsgroups because the conversations get
out of hand too often. I suggest reading something like
commondreams.org. Subscribe to their newsletter and you can get headlines
from many different news sources in your inbox. Not everything there is good, but
you can see some alternative viewpoints by reading it. Also read the
writings of the founding fathers and compare them to what the Republican
party is doing.
