Ahhh, good deal, I was a lil worried it was just seeing everything as
Flash 8 (hope it works on Linux and teh Mac). I really wish Microsoft
or somebody would create some developer tools for web design, like
something that can emulate every major browser on every major OS there
is, with a plugin option for future browsers (that way you wouldn't
need to download brand new software every six months). As it stands
now I'm also being forced to use Flash just to ensure the maximum
level of cross compatibility. The unfortunate thing is that Flash was
a completely useless bitch up until Flash 8 when they finally sorted
out all the image positioning and alignment issues (could still use
some work though) but the problem with that is that it'll take at
least a good 6 months to a year for Flash 8 to really propagate. The
other major thing that Flash 8 is lacking is embedded HTML. It would
be REALLY great if they integrated a simple browser of sorts into
Flash itself and let you embed HTML files.

The problem I have with traditional web design (which I've pretty much
mastered at this point) is that it's all guess work. There is so much
false information out there it's not even funny. I recall one site
that listed a whole slew of CSS attributes and what they were
~supposedly~ cross compatible with, but then it turned out that like
more than half their information was just flat out wrong. And in a
lot of other cases they don't take into account version compatibility
and other factors, which is just annoying.

I believe it's all this ambiguity that started forcing web design into
a rather backwards state...that nearly pure text, minimalist, blogger
board style that looked like somebody hit the button on the fuckin
wayback machine. It's like the Inet circa 1996, but with better
colors and photos in the place of clip art. Not much of an
improvement if you ask me. The other problem though is that many
Flash artists tend to over do it. There was this one guy the other
day who posted his site:
http://www.damien-oliver.com/
And it's like, WOW, boy that's pretty damn cool, he even programmed
his own float effect, no cookie cutter bullshit at all...but on the
other hand it's a bit over the top. And I don't even mean the style,
I like the style, it's just having everything move out of it's
position every time you click on something is just...well, annoying.
I think that site would be a lot better if things were more
stationary, the float effect and such could stay in, but just don't
keep throwing the windows around for no real reason (also make it so
the background sound actually loops, cause man that it just annoying).

Yeah I think I'll add in a lil icon underneath it and then also make
it so that when you click on it, it mutes the volume completely.

I actually kinda like it that way, although it might make it better
for some users if it was a lil bigger. The volume slider on my main
Backwater downloads section is a good size I think.

I like that the way it is too, to me the reason you'd be hitting stop
is because you're bored or you're done with a particular clip and you
want it to go away...otherwise why wouldn't you just use pause? I
suppose it might be handy to include a rewind button or make it so you
can click and drag the progress bar to the point you want, but on the
other hand that site is for very short clips, in which case the point
doesn't hold much weight. Usually it's best to have that sort of
functionality for longer clips, 10+ minutes...at least that's my
methodology.

>- Possibly shorten fade times.

I'll think about it, I kinda want them to be a lil long though, I mean
it's like yoga/meditation/enlightenment/yadda, yadda, yadda...in which
case I think it should be more...calm, subdued, slow...rather than
quick and fast.
