Many thanks, John and Greg, I will peruse the links.
The guy who is "managing" the take up of this software is an accountant! He
has been given a price for the supply and configuration of the Great Plains
software and subsequent support.
Problem seems to be that the SQL side of things has been (perhaps
conveniently for the suppliers) glossed over.
So the additional costs for SQL license, CALS and support are only just
beginning to surface.
To my mind the adoption of Great Plains and all that it entails for a
company of 30 employees seems overkill.
It appears to be driven by a need to do cash flow forecasting, handle many
currencies/exchange and, to a lesser extent, have greater control over
project accounting which our current package TasBooks cannot do.
It may be too late now (and the accountant claims to have searched
extensively for alternative packages), but if you are aware of software
which can perform the above functions and cope with UK VAT etc please let me
know.
