<fool>Because something that costs lots of money and is made by a big
fat corporation *must* be better. its obvious innit.</fool>

A lot of it is reputation as well, which is quite understandable.

People like what they are used to, that's why I use Windows even when
I'm quite sure Linux is a superior OS in many ways. I can get about in
Windows and get things done.

If you were brought up on VB then you'll like ASP. The majority of
open-source technologies are based on C. C is a beautiful language IMO
the most beautiful language but from my experience at college it was
definitely harder for people to pick up than say, VB or PASCAL. Lots of
people on my course were saying "Can't we write this in PASCAL?". I felt
the same too but I put those thoughts to the back of my mind and
practiced coding in C++. Average joes appreciate fast and simple but not
necessarily elegant and powerful. PHP is great because it makes a
compromise between elegant and simple but retains power.

Saying all of this though dot NET is quite nice, the best thing to come
of Microsoft in a long time. And C++ with .NET is a good combination or
it would be if you could compile it in an open-source compiler/ide that
supports ANSI C++ properly.
