Carved in mystic runes upon the very living rock, the last words of
rlee0001 of comp.lang.php make plain:

Definitely.
I was originally asked just to fix a single bug. Then the client wanted
some other changes made, and I did that. Up to this point, it's been more
practical to patch the existing code, especially since the client was
originally hoping to launch this product last December. However, if he
wants anything further done, I'm going to start suggesting that it would
be better to start from scratch. I already did that on part of one
module, and he didn't blink, so I may be able to convince him.
I absolutely do not believe in squeezing my clients for every penny I can
get from them. I am confident enough in myself and my abilities that I
know I can always get plenty of work. Last month someone approached me
with a job that would have netted me a few hundred bucks. He had some
basic technical skill, so I showed him an existing OS app that he could
easily integrate into what he wanted, and he was delighted. Now I know
that if he ever needs any real work done, he'll think of me.
