It is very robust, Google, Yahoo, and many other large web compaiones
use it all the time, it manly depends on your hardware and connection.
If you serve it on a computer witrhout much RAM or processing power or
through a slower connection you may not get as good results. If you
expect a very hiugh number of connections you can set up multiple
servers as a database cluster to handle the load.
Also being a commercial business you might consider another DB, with
MySQL you may need to pay a licesing fee for your commercial use (check
the MySQL license on thier site for limitations of use to see where you
fit in.) The alterative is PostgreSQL.
Given that you are not a techhnical person, you probably sould start by
finding a skilled web applicaton guy (who knows PHP and MySQL) and see
what he thinks it would take to get your idea on-line.
