the mail() function sucks...even on linux. for iis, i usually just write the
email to file and the file is saved/written to the iis pickup directory
(usually c:\inetpub\mailroot\pickup). if you can't write directly to this
directory, you can use cdonts. you'd use the com() function in php to create
the cdonts object and then set the paratemeters for authentication as well
as others (like attachements, multipart, etc.).
there's plenty of info re. cdonts on microsoft's website.
specifically here, though, it would seem that you need to configure your
mail FROM (being a valid user) and set up iis to allow relaying for/from
your server's ip address. this has nothing to do with to whom the mail is
being sent.
