PHP is a pretty readable language. If you get a script from a
reputable source it probably has been reviewed by many people and if
there are any spyware components thay would have been discovered. Even
if the script came from a source you probably can find about any
problems by using Google Groups ( http://groups.google.com/ ) and
searching for the site or the script name, if it is some sort of
scumware chances are someone would be ranting about it on-line.
If you are shopping for a script- start with places that have a good
community like http://www.sourceforge.net/ look for scripts that have
been around for a while (have had revisions) and have a good community
support (you can usually tell from the bug and feature requests on a
project as to how well it is doing.)
Without knowing too much php programming or having someone with PHP
skills examinging code, you are going to have to look for places you
can trust first before shopping for the scripts you plan to use.
Maybe some folk can post and comment on sites to check out and/or
avoid.
Good Luck
Larry
