Whitespace in textarea needs to remain when submitted to a database

or p tages, I just need info submitted in a textarea (goes into a
mysql database) to retain any carriage returns within the text.
Currently my script strips it out and long posts become a huge
paragraph. How can I do this? Thanks for any advice.
