The question that comes to my mind is what is different in the two machines?
Do they have the same font selection? Are they running the same versions of
Java and/or MS's virtual machine? I would also take into account what the
page is using; if there is no java on the page, then it probably isn't a
java issue.
Without looking at the page itself, my best guess would be that it may be
font related. Is spacing font size dependent? Are his default fonts
larger than yours? If so are his gaps larger than yours? Following that
chain, his thin white line, might be reduced to a 1/3rd pixel width line on
your display. But like I said, this is only a guess, and I won't even call
it an educated guess.
Let us see the problem, then maybe we can help you find it.
