For many people, it's in the browser preferences. And those preferences
are accessible to Javascript, at least for some browsers at some security
settings.
Also, if Javascript can manage to send an email to the webmaster
of the web site (without popups asking permission), your email
address may be added in the From: line of the email by your email
software.
Also, spammers get a lot of email addresses by trying all possible
combinations of common names with known domain names. Or they
harvest addresses from USENET or web sites.
