The corresponding situation on Windows would be:
you copy section A into the clipboard,

The solution is not to do the above, but rather:
go and make a minor cut/paste edit with section B,
then you copy section A into the clipboard,
then go to paste section A and find it works.
On most platforms there is a limit of one thing that can be held on the
main clipboard at once; and certain activities will cause that thing to be
overwritten. Just don't do those things when you've got something
important in clipboard.
