| i've got several file on a server that have html links to them. most are
pdf
| but not all. i'd like to have the os of the client pc open the doc with
the
| appropriate executable when their related hyperlink is clicked. i've taken
| the sledge-hammer approach that i've read as a hack to do this, which is
| setting the html header to content-type=application/octet-stream. on my pc
| this works but on others, it doesn't. the application will sometimes
launch
| but (in the case of the pdf's) gives an error about the file format. i
think
| it's to do with the size of the file since the other pc's are hit and miss
| when getting the file.
|
| do i have to setup some kind of filter that will set headers to the
specific
| file type being opened...like pdf, or excel, or whatever? i'd really like
to
| stay away from getting that specific as that will become something that
must
| be maintained.
|
| thanks for your thoughts,
|
