Actually, contrary to what I just wrote, its possible that all the PHP
work is going overseas. That's the opinion of Shelley Powers. Few
people in the world know as much about WordPress as she does (or RDF,
or Javascript, etc). In this blog post she insisted that in her part of
the country (Mississouri) there was no PHP work at all:

In the comments I asked her if she meant "none" in an absolute sense,
or simply "none that pays enough that I'd be interested". She insisted
that she meant none at all, in an absolute sense. She feels that all
the PHP work has been outsourced to other countries.
