PHP has nothing to do with it, so yeah, it can be done and it wouldn't
take a lot of time in PHP.
There's a reason why others have used Java: it runs in the client (the
browser). Thus you could build it in any browser-accepted environment.
Flash and Javascript come to mind. And maybe HTML Forms 2.0 will have a
slider, I should check that, so you don't need to build anything at all.
