Like your opinion actually matters to anybody but yourself .

Its quite obvious its the getting started with php thats the hard part .

Snippets of code that dont actually do very much is hardly ideal to a
newbie as they cant really see the point of it or what it does in actual
use on a website .

A mini website , Change a bit here and there and then view the results
in a browser is a QUITE VISUAL practical example .

If a php newbie played around with the mini website for several hours -
when they woke up the next day they would probably realise they
understood part of it - and in turn would go back to it to try some
other changes to see what happens - in theory .
