How To Become A Super Affiliate
Category: Affiliate Marketing - Development | Date: 2003-04-28 |
Are you struggling to promote affiliate programs on the Internet? Are you spending countless hours behind the computer checking your email for messages such as "Congratulations, another order!", or "You Just Made A Sale", waiting for that glimmer of hope?
Do you run to the mailbox to retrieve your affiliate checks only to be disheartened when you see a check for only $3.47 for three months work?
Are you so absorbed with trying to make your affiliate programs work that all you do is breathe, eat and sleep your computer. Does your wife have to send you an email to let you know dinner is ready?
Okay, nuff with questions.
Promoting affiliate programs can be a very frustrating thing if the results do not equal the benefits. The concept seems simple. Sell their product or service and they will send you a nice commission check every month. Easy enough huh? Nope.
Here are a few things to look at when you are promoting an affiliate program:
Quality of the Product or Service: Are you promoting a quality product or service? You have to look at what you are trying to promote and think to yourself, "Would I purchase it?". If the answer is "no", then why do you expect someone else to?
People purchase products and services that will add value. If you see little value in what you are promoting, chances are the thousands of people you reach with your sales pitch will see little value in it also.
Reasonable Commissions: Does the affiliate program provide you with reasonable commissions? Do you honestly think you are going to break the bank promoting programs that only offer you $1 or $2 commissions?
You should promote programs that offer big commissions such as 25% - 50% and provide you with reasonable return. What I mean by reasonable return is good money in your pockets.
For example, lets examine the following two fictitious affiliate programs?:
Program 1 - Rubber Duckys for $2. You get a 50% commission ($1) for every rubber ducky you sell.
Program 2 - Marketing ebook for $89. You get a 50% commissions ($44.50) for every marketing ebook you sell.
Most people fall into the trap of thinking that the Rubber Ducky program is the easiest program to promote because people will be more willing to shell out $2 instead of $89.
Wrong! It is easier to promote the marketing ebook! Why? Because you will need to sell over forty-four Rubber Duckys before you equal the commissions of selling one marketing ebook. Now, you tell me what is harder, making forty-four sales or one?
Know What You Are Selling:
Do you know the product? Many people try to promote products or services that they do not have a clue about. To persuasively promote a product or service, you have to know it! What better way to know a product or service but by purchasing it! How else are you going to know what the features and benefits are?
Dont be cheap. If you are serious about a promoting a product or service, purchase it! By knowing what you are promoting, you will easily recoup your costs and additional sales.
Are You Pre-Selling? Are you effectively pre-selling the product or service to potential customers?
Are you simply popping up a few banners on your web site and sticking a classified ad at a few free classified ad sites on the Internet? Trust me, these methods are not going to get you the sales that you need.
Your job is NOT to get the final sale from the customer. This is the responsibility of the company selling the product or service. If they cannot effectively close a lead that you have worked so hard to generate, you may want to switch affiliate programs.
Pre-selling is no easy task. With conversion ratios as low as 2-3%, you have to reach thousands of people before you see those affiliate orders piling up. You need to work hard on raising that conversion ratio by writing persuasive ad copy.
Try writing a great editorial in your ezine or an endorsement on your web site. Once you get that customers juices flowing, it is time to send them over to your main affiliate sales page (provided by the company) to have them close the sale.
Are You Giving Up To Soon: Many people will promote an affiliate program for a few weeks and then move on to a new one. Promotion takes time. You will never make any real money if you keep affiliate program hopping.
Statistics indicate that a customer will purchase a product or service after being exposed to an advertisement seven times. Do you want someone else promoting the same affiliate program to snag your sale because you gave up too soon and he/she came around at the right time when your customer finally made their decision to buy?
Probably the best course on the Internet to learn how to become a "Super Affiliate" is Ken Evoys intensive 5-day email affiliate course. The course is absolutely free and will give you a wealth of information that will teach you how to market affiliate programs successfully.
