Ooh, that was a Controversial Release

Category: Affiliate Marketing - Development Date: 2003-04-28
In todays lesson Id like to talk a little about joint ventures. Specifically, the joint venture I released with Sam Robbins recently in my BizWeb eGazette.

What Id like to do is enlighten you on how an effective JV is performed and what you can expect when you use this marketing technique.

In case you are not familiar with the term "JV", heres what it means. In a nutshell, a JV is when one business agrees to promote another companys product, service or opportunity (usually with an announcement to their customers/ subscribers) and share any profits that the announcement may generate. And they usually generate quite a large sum when done correctly.

But rather than focus on the monetary results today, I want to go in a different direction. Monetarily, joint ventures can result in periods of quite impressive income, when done professionally and sparingly. Theres no disputing that. But thats not to say you wont run into a few negative aspects.

Let me explain...

For starters, in case you missed the special announcement I sent to my subscribers earlier this week, here it is in its entirety...

Subject: "Special Release" RE: Need More Sales? Read this.

Howdy BizWeb eGazette subscribers,

I know, this is my second "special release" this year. But I just HAD to let you know about this new website right away. Ive been waiting over a year for it to officially open, and Im extremely confident it will boost the sales of EVERY single one of my subscribers who visits.

Why The Delay...

Actually, I was going to send out this "special release" a few months ago. But like EVERYTHING that I present to my subscribers and customers, I first have to TEST and RETEST to make sure that whatever I recommend works - it has to be proven and almost foolproof.

Anyway, after all is said and done, what my "marketing tests" proved to me were shocking... and they will do the same for you!

Incredible Web Site!...

The owner of this incredible web site (and "new" information) is Sam Robbins - a personal friend of mine who is responsible for lots of my recent (as well as future) online income generation. Actually, hes the guy "behind the scenes" of more successful websites than I realized.

Anyway, I wont go into detail in this message, Ill just say this...

Its INCREDIBLE!

The site you are about to visit shares the SECRET to what I now consider the **SINGLE MOST** important component of any business, on or off the Internet. (I myself was a bit blind to it but Sam really opened my eyes with actual income -- youll see exactly how much at his site.)

And the secrets he shares at this new site (for FREE!) will undoubtedly make the difference between dismal sales or wildly exciting income at many more websites. Id like one of those sites to be YOURS!

This information will help you

* save money,
* increase sales AND profits,
* save you precious time and energy
* discover the true secret behind the success of ANY marketing and promotion campaign!

And you can use this information to help promote your OWN products and services... or an affiliate program (or anything else for that matter)!

Its For A Limited Time

There. Ive said enough. Hurry and go to the special link Sam has provided for my subscribers only. (I say to hurry because Sam has only agreed to make this link available for one week. Im hoping hell make it available longer, but DONT TAKE THAT CHANCE ... go there NOW...)

Best regards,

Jim Daniels
www.bizweb2000.com

P.S. FAIR WARNING! Some of the content youll see there is a bit on the "untamed" side. But if youre going to make a serious run at Net profits, you MUST read everything at this unique site first! Read it ALL THE WAY THROUGH because his best kept secrets are at the very end!

So did you read that P.S. closely? Particularly the sentence directly after "FAIR WARNING"?

Well it seems that some of the folks who visited Sams site were indeed offended. And Id like to let them air out their grievances right here in todays lesson.

What youll find below are a handful of actual messages from BizWeb eGazette subscribers. A few of them were very surprised that Id want to publish their comments here. But I think its important for EVERY marketer who has ever considered running a joint venture, to see what they will encounter.

Now the last thing I want to do is scare you off from doing a JV. Remember, JVs can be a great way to add upwards of six figures to your annual income, especially when done well on the web. And if you tick a few people off in the process, you have to remember, that comes with the territory. Read on and youll see what I mean.

Here are some of the email messages I received over the few days following the above email release... (their names and addresses have been removed to protect their identity)

Letter #1
Jim, The only reason I am taking the time to make a comment is because you are one of my favorite Internet Marketers. You have always made sense to me and you have always seemed to deal ethically with your neighbor. But I have noticed a pattern forming online and I thought that you would like to know about it - since you are now included in that pattern. This is what I have noticed recently. Many prominent web marketers [examples withheld] have resorted to "sex" talk to effect readers of their marketing ad copy. Now I go over to another website (which you have sent me to) and find the same thing "sex and drugs". I was turned off. I didnt read any more. Im not that desperate. I dont want to include "garbage" in my ad copy just to get a response. Money isnt that important to me. So here is my comment: No, thank you.

Letter #2
Jim, Perhaps you might like to tell Mr. Bigmouth Robbins that I was just about to purchase the Deluxe version when I came across the pop-up window about his Platinum affiliate program. First it was packed with lies about 2-tier programs not being as effective as a single tier. Then he went on to say that the commissions paid are always low (our combined payout is 75% -- 40% higher than his "highest payout on the entire internet").

Ouch! These two messages were not at all what I expected when I released this JV! But...

...if theres one thing Ive learned since I started using joint venture marketing last year, its this... You cannot please everyone all the time.

When you do joint ventures, you are virtually guaranteed to receive some negative replies. What you do with this feedback is what counts.

Here are some tips... Stay positive. Thank them for their valuable feedback and most importantly, dont be drawn into a battle. Nothing good will come of that. While negative feedback can be a hassle to deal with, feedback of any kind should be considered a GOOD thing. It means people are reading what you write!

But heres the most important thing to take from this...

Dont let the fear of negative feedback keep you from doing joint ventures. If you worry about ticking off a few people, especially online where it is easy to voice opinion, then you might pass up a chance to move your business forward.

The fact is, negative messages just come with the JV territory. Not everyone will agree with everything you are promoting. As long as YOU are comfortable with it that is the key.

So before you do ANY JV, do what I do... Test the product or service thoroughly. Apply it to your business first. If it performs up to or beyond your expectations and you are 100% convinced that it will help many of your subscribers or customers, spread the word. Most of them will thank you for the information, no matter how controversial it may be.

Case in point...

Letter #3
Thanks Jim, I always feel privileged to see new things before the rest of the Net gets wind of it! Your gazette makes me feel as though Im in a special club. Sams site was incredible. Even though I dont have the money right now to join his private site I did pick up some valuable information about web marketing. Hes so right, thinking back over the last year online, just about every purchase Ive made has been based more on emotion that logic! I will remember this when I start building my site. Keep the great stuff coming Jim.

Letter #4
Jim, Please feel free to send more messages like this my way! This is the kind of thing I love. No matter how well my copy does, Im always looking for ways to make it better. The great thing with stuff like this is that even one small improvement can be worth hundreds of times the cost of these programs. And getting it at a discount never hurts. ;) Thanks again.

[That letter came from a very well-known web marketer!]

Letter #5
Jim...thank you! I just ordered and received the package Thank you again! ...sharing legitimate powerful info like this is indeed a true service....it is why you have the good reputation that you do! Great stuff! This was very timely for me since I am in the middle of the birthing process of writing my MLMTruth.com site :-)

Thanks everyone, for ALL your juicy feedback, good or bad. And now Id like to give the floor to Sam Robbins, the guy behind that controversial website...

Sam writes...
When Jim asked me if it was okay for him to publish a few "not-so-nice" emails... I thought, sure, why not. After all, I dont expect to put a smile on everyones face! And as Jim wrote above, you cant please everyone all the time. Heck, you cant do it in the "real" world, let alone in the business world. The more successful you become, the more people you come in contact with, and the higher the odds of "turning someone off".

Perhaps my biggest problem (which may also be my biggest asset!) is that I like to call it like I see it. And Ive seen a lot in my years online. For example, I offended someone by talking about "sex and drugs" at my website (as stated in the above example of Letter #1). Again, Im guilty of calling it like I see it. The fact is, the folks who actually read WHY I mentioned sex and drugs at my site were the folks who sent the nice letters to Jim, thanking him for the heads-up on my site. And at my site youll find another 100 or so letters like those.

Anyway, the point to all of this was for Jim to tell you - his loyal subscribers and friends - about one of the most beneficial marketing tactics he has ever used. One that even surprised HIM! Ive been in sales and marketing for a very long time. I know how the human mind works and I pride myself in sharing those FACTS and proven tactics.

And sure, Ive been called a "big mouth" before, but its usually by some big-name marketing expert who catches me blabbing about why they keep their REAL secrets to themselves. The fact is, some of the biggest and most popular marketing sites that you have all been to, have been edited by me personally! These top marketers have personally thanked me for increasing their sales and profits beyond what even they could realize possible. Again, that was the original goal of my web site... to share how Ive been doing that!

And the reason Jim sent everyone that special mailing was try and help you make more money, more sales, with less effort. So in closing, Id just like to say, the key to success in life and business is to keep your mind open to new possibilities. Whether its a marketing tactic like Joint Ventures or a "controversial" web site like my own. Keep an open mind, be persistent, be patient and have passion. You will succeed in ANYTHING you do. And thanks Jim, for letting my visitors share their views in your Gazette! Your friend, Sam Robbins

Well, that wraps up todays lesson. I hope by sharing these letters youve picked up a tip or two about doing business online. If theres one thing you take from this, I hope its Sams parting message. "Always keep your mind open to new possibilities." Especially on the web where the business environment changes by the month, as opposed to by the year or even by the decade in the real world.

And if you missed Sams controversial website -- give it a look. Consider what hes revealing there. You dont have to agree with it all, and you certainly dont have to try it all, but do your business this one favor... Compare what Sam reveals there, to some of the marketing copy you get from the most successful companies in the world. You may find a shocking similarity...

To your online marketing success...
