Alice in Microsoftland

Whoa! What is Microsoft thinking? Where are they going with this new browser interface? It is definitely not geared to attracting online business use.
The new browser interface MSN Explorer - http://explorer.msn.com/home.htm , with the idea of getting in to the AOL market, is so static. Although at first sight, colours and graphics are appealing, sustained appeal is very questionable. The cutesy value is immediate but unfortunately, given its finality, once seen, then seen again and again, may urge you to never want to come back. The illustrations are very nice, colourful, but never changing.
The fear of Alice in Wonderland syndrome may set in, fear of being trapped in a colourful, unreal never changing dream. I had one of these when I was a child, the artistic side making an early show, nice colours but frightening regularity.
The toolbar across the top and side dominate the entire page and are very space consuming, adding to the overall dominance of the illustrations and threat of no change. Microsoft products and websites have alway been reliable, full of information and most importantly, interaction. Unfortunately this display, interface, seems to have been left in the hands of the designers, who may be experiencing flashbacks of their own Alice style adventures.
It would seem that the appeal of this browser has been aimed at the family... mums and dads and the kiddies. But, from experience, my little girl 9 almost 10 years of age, would be bored in minutes, and might even keep me up all night with that inherited dream of mine, personally I like the smoking caterpillar.
The entire set up (colours, icons, buttons, format etc), while aesthetically pleasing for the first minute or five, I think, would lead businesses not to take page browsing seriously on MSN Explorer, advertising banners have a hard time here, blending into the background, and one site I saw, pre-dominantly blue.... just disappeared in to the structure.
Where are you Mr Gates, while your latest product floats down the endless hole... late.. late... for very important date, no time to say hello good-bye, Im late, Im late, Im late!
