Get Organized

I dont know about you, but its very easy for me to get sidetracked in cyberspace. I go into one site which leads me to other sites that offer valuable information. And the next thing I know a few hours have gone by.
There are certain things that need to be accomplished and I am a list person. So I make a list of the tasks that need to be accomplished and a list of items that dont need to be done right away, but that I would like to accomplish in the near future. Here are some tips that help me with my organizational tasks (however, I must admit that periodically my task list gets buried under the masses of things that need to be done):
Set a goal for the month - What is the major thing you want to accomplish this month?
Break down your monthly goals into weekly goals - What are you going to accomplish this week?
Break down those weekly goals into daily goals - What are you going to accomplish today? Each morning set out with what is most important for you to accomplish that day and focus on that area.
Focus on one task at a time. Clear everything off of your desk except what pertains to the current task at hand. Close any programs you dont need to complete that task. Close the door to your office. Let the answering machine answer the phone, if you must complete that task before moving on to the next.
If you can stay focused on the things you want to accomplish it is easier to get them done and not get sidetracked quite so easily. As soon as you find yourself off in wonderland, ask yourself "is this getting me closer to my goals"? If the activity is a task to enable you to accomplish what you set out to do, fine. If not, get back on track immediately.
