Who~What~Why~When~Where~How~How to find your Target Market quickly!

When starting a new business or putting a fresh start into an existing business, it is best to first examine your product or services that you offer. Ask yourself two questions:
(1) What are the products or services I offer?
(2) What purpose do they serve?

You should be well aware of the answer to number (1). But, how much thought have you given to question (2)? Knowing the answer to that question- the why your customer is purchasing your product or service- directs you to your target market! To help you better understand this do a little exercise right now and list your product or services on a sheet of paper down one side. Then list the purpose or uses of each one beside it. Use your imagination. You may have the same answer for all your offerings, or you may have a different purpose for each. Keep this list handy because you will probably think of other "whys" or one of your customers may tell you one and it will be good to have this to refer to!

Now take a good look at what you have just done. You have now determined "who" wants what you have to offer! Your customers want to know "why" they should have what you offer. For some it is obvious, but others need to have this pointed out to them in BIG, BOLD LETTERS!

Our next step is "where" to find those people you want and need what you have! The answer is in your list. When you wrote the uses for your business, you described those who would want it. Are they senior citizens? New parents or grandparents?
New homeowners? School age kids? Clubs, Businesses or public Organizations?

Examine the list carefully. There's another list developing from it. This list will name the type of people who want and need your business! Now, don't assume EVERYONE needs you! That's just not going to happen. So, be specific in where you will find your customers. You will be developing a potential customer base that will make your dreams a reality!

To learn "how" to advertise and promote your business and "when" to do this most effectively is determined on your particular products or services and who your prospective customers are. These lists should help you design a system that will work for you!
