Sam, My Border Collies Internet Marketing Advice! No 17
Category: Copy Writing - sales copy | Date: 2003-05-14 |
Sam (thats my 12 year old Border Collie) and I were walking again through the Bush (Australian countryside). Sam as usual was ranging out from me checking for the Eucalyptus trees that needed his marketing skills.
When we reached our usual rock beside the fallen log, I was astonished to see Old man Kangaroo lying right where Sam and I normally sat.
"Gday" said Sam. "What are you going here this time of day? ( it was 8 am and Old Man Kangaroo had usually finished all his marketing jobs and gone to bed.) Old Man Kangaroo said, Well I was waiting for you two to show up. Why? I asked.
Well" said Old Man Kangaroo again, Im looking for some marketing advice. Sam said, "Whats the problem?" (he loves being asked questions that will enable him to demonstrate the skills of a veteran marketer in the Australian Bush).
Well said Old man kangaroo yet again, Ive been approached by young Trudi, (thats our 6 month old German shepherd, shes a lovely lass with a penchant for writing Ad copy) with a proposal to write my Ad copy for me. Im not sure how to take her offer, after all Ive been marketing right here in this territory for years but she is so persuasive that Im not sure what to say to her.
"I think its a great idea of Trudis," said Sam straight off the bat. Trudi is Sams protege and is the pride of his life. After all he introduced her to the concepts of marketing when she could hardly walk and he has been nurturing her natural skills for writing Ad copy since she first showed that inclination.
You do, why do you say that Sam? retorted Old Man Kangaroo. "Well, I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with learning from anothers fresh approach." returned Sam. "After all your business isnt exactly booming at the moment. Is it?"
No, I suppose Ive let it slip a bit lately and Ive been rather reluctant to be bothered to rewrite my ad copy until its absolutely necessary returned Old Man Kangaroo. So you think its a good idea?
"I think its a fabulous idea," said Sam. "After all were NEVER too old to learn from a new fresh approach. Thats what network marketing is all about, we continue to grow simply because we remain open to new ideas all the time and this is what makes this type of work so exciting"
I couldnt contain myself and interjected by saying, Sams spot on, we stagnate the moment we stop learning from our friends and colleagues. Theres a bit of a catch to this type of learning though. "I know," said Sam. How do you mean? said Old man Kangaroo.
Firstly, you have to know a fair bit about the person who is prompting you to learn something new. Its no good just letting anyone show you new things, you must have a sound knowledge of that person and be in the position to judge their credentials. In other words, you must trust them.
"Zactly" said Sam. "There are two simple ways you can do this. ONE you know the person for a lengthy time, so that youve had time to develop a trust in them. TWO you can accept the recommendation of others who you already trust."
O.K! said Old Man Kangaroo. Bring young Trudi out with you tomorrow and Ill see what she can contribute to my rather lacklustre Ad campaign. " Not a problem," exclaimed Sam. "Now Id better take Gordon home for lunch." Sam always has to have the last word!
