The Money Is In The List

I've lost count of the number of times that I have read that expression - "The money is in the list", but what does it really mean?
When marketers refer to "the list", they are talking about a list of people with whom they have previously had contact on a business level.
This could be a list of people who have answered an advert, requested a report or asked to be informed of updates. The list could be made up exclusively of customers - people who are liable to buy again, presented with the right offer. However, the most common type of list is the subscriber list for an ezine or newsletter.
During the time it takes to get a healthy subscription list for an ezine, you will have gained the respect of a lot of your subscribers, and they will be more inclined to being interested in what you have to offer.
Likewise lists of buyers. If they have bought one product from you, there has to be a good chance that they will buy another along a similar vein.
I always keep three types of list - enquirers, buyers and ezine subscribers. Enquirers because it enables me to follow up with them in further attempts to gain a sale, buyers so that I can present them with similar offers, and ezine subscribers as a more general type of list.
I have heard of marketers being able to make a healthy living from a subscriber list of just 5,000, while others control lists in the five figure bracket and are doing very nicely thank you.
However, this is all very well for those who have access to these large lists, but what about those who don't write an ezine, or haven't been in business long enough to acquire a sizeable list? Are they doomed to extinction?
Not at all. If you don't have your own list as yet, because you are still building it (you ARE building a list, aren't you?) then you just use someone else's (for a small fee, of course).
Many of the list owners will offer what is termed a "solo mailing". This means that they will mail your offer, on its own, to their subscriber list. This could be a list of anywhere upwards of a couple of thousand, with the price being higher for the larger lists.
The right offer made to some of these lists can bring in a very healthy addition to your turnover, and in a short space of time. But where do you find these lists?
Chances are you know of one or two already, run by the publishers of ezines that you subscribe to, but if you want a real choice of opt in lists, then you need an ebook directory that has just been published by Dale Publishing.
"Opt-In Magic" contains details of a variety of opt-in lists that offer solo mailings, with something to suit every budget and requirement. It is free to download and you can also offer it to your own subscribers/website visitors if you wish.
