Sam, My Border Collies Internet Marketing Advice! Part 1

Category: E-mail Marketing Date: 2002-06-11
Sam (thats my 12 year old Border Collie) and I were walking through the Bush (Australian countryside). Sam as usual was ranging out from me checking for the Eucalyptus trees that needed his complete focus.

Hes become expert at marketing over the years and he always appreciates the bounce back advertisements he has received since his last walk.

During our walks Sam often stops to have a yarn with his friends in the bush. Ive often wondered what he talks about when he meets that old kangaroo or what he thinks about as he stops and stares at the duck-billed platypus puddling around at the edge of the creek.

Perhaps he is just looking to learn more about how others operate in a competitive environment. Maybe he is just looking for ideas that he can use for his next ad campaign.

Sometimes we rest together on a rock beside a fallen log. We can look into each others eyes with the perfect trust that should exemplify all Internet marketers. When our eyes meet we are so in tune that we can virtually read each others thoughts.

Sam explained to me today with great patience how and why he likes getting bounce backs:

You know Gordon, nothing gives me more satisfaction than to communicate with someone who thinks that spamming me with their bounce backed ad is good for their Internet Marketing business.

As you know helping others become successful at marketing on the net is my greatest source of satisfaction and for that matter its one of the main things that makes my business profitable.

Ive lost count of the number of times that Ive been able to help show a spammer with their bounce backs how to build a stable business without resorting to spamming. Some of my greatest friends are ex-spammers.

You need to look closely at the E-mail youve just received. I mean closely. Id really sniff it out. Check out any links, read the proposed offer and find out exactly what the offer is.

Often youll find something missing from their e-mail that you can help them with. E.g. they havent given their name, only given an auto-responder address for contact and sometimes (quite often actually) they have failed to clearly state what their program really is all about.

I know, youre thinking, how can this spammer be a prospect? Well perhaps theyre not a prospect, BUT theyre certainly a SUSPECT. Almost always at the other end there is someone who really and truly would like to develop an income stream from marketing on the net.

But Sam, how do you get business from a spammers bounce back ad?

Its easy Gordon, as you already know every time you advertise on the net you only get a percentage of responses to your ad and from those responses you will only get a few who genuinely are interested in your product. From this last group you will get a small number who take up your offer.

From the first group a large percentage of respondents will be spammers bouncing back their ad to you. If you just delete this group you are actually throwing away a very large group of contacts indeed.

Now as you already know Im 12 years old now and Ive been marketing for longer than I care to think about. In fact I have now specialised in the training side of marketing. So who better to help the spammers who havent found out or havent been trained how to market successfully on the Internet. Eh!

Remember! most of these people are already committed to making money via Internet marketing so I have a targeted audience that is absolutely in need of a successful marketing strategy.

Look Gordon, its getting on, wed better get home soon for lunch. But before we go let me say this, if you contact the person at the other end of a bounce back there are some rules to follow and memorise:

1. You never SPAM them with your program that would only indicate that you were not professional.

2. Never ever buy from a spammer even if they have a program your really must have. This would only encourage them to continue sending others their bounce back ads.

3. When you have contacted a spammer with your questions ( never ever mention your own program at this stage) about their program, their name or for a clearer explanation of their program, if they do not answer your questions in a reasonable time You delete them and block them permanently.

There are some people that you just cant help or dont want your help, accept that and you wont waste your time.

4. Keep a printed record of your correspondence.
Remember what I said the other day? Success on the net depends on trust and at this stage you dont know who you are dealing with.

You may well find that they are not worthy of your trust and you wouldnt risk your reputation training someone who hasnt got it in them to be trustworthy, now would you?

5. Always remember rules 1 to 4.

Come on mate, lets go and have a bit of lunch and tomorrow Ill show you how to make this concept of answering bounce backs really work for you. You know it can double your marketing success if you do it right.
