Turning your internet trash into treasure
Category: E-mail Marketing | Date: 2002-06-14 |
"Spam, spam, spam, spam..... Spam, spam, spam, spam.....Lovely spam; wonderful spam........"
Ah, the memorable words of Monty Python. If youve ever seen that comedy routine you can hear the Gregorian chant resonating within your mind as you read this.
S-P-A-M ....... the most despised word on the internet BUT one that should be embraced by the internet marketer.
"What are you NUTS?", I can hear you saying.
Nope......... While I am NOT advocating that you turn into a spam-masochist, what I am suggesting is that, since you cannot hope to escape from this ever-growing menace, that you "take the lemons and make lemonade".
How can you do this? Simply be a student of your own nature.
Admit it! YOU open spam messages. No, not all of them, but SOME of them entice you to delve further into the dark recesses of their spamdom..... in other words, some pique your curiosity and COMPEL you to open them.
The question that you must ask yourself as a marketer is "WHY?"
Why did you want to open THAT email while trashing the rest? What was so irresistible about that subject line that said, "Hey dude (or dudette), Ive got something you want".
The good marketing student will study and learn and APPLY this to their own marketing efforts (leaving out the spamming, of course).
Since the subject line is what causes your sales message to get opened and read, you should spend as much (or more) thought about the message that it sends to your prospect as you do for your presentation message itself.
Im sure that millions of boxes of Cracker Jacks have been sold because of the simple headline, "Prize Inside" :o)
