5 Strategies that will double your subscribers!

Strategy # 1: Tell Them What Theyll Get!

In May, I started publishing another ezine, this time for writers. For the first issue, I was able to bring in 81 subscribers. Eight days before the launch of the first issue, I sent out an ad to the promotion lists I was subscribed to. Two days after, I had 48 sign ups. A day before sending the first issue, I had 81 new ones.

Here is the ad I sent out:

>> Subscribe to The e-Writers Place Update E-letter and receive the first issue on May 10. Succeeding issues will arrive in your mailboxes after every 25 days!

By email promotion standards, the above ad is rather long. However, it was able to pull in 81 subscribers in only six days simply because it gave potential subscribers an overview of what they will be getting if they subscribed to the ezine, not to mention the catchy column names with short, snappy and intriguing descriptions.

So be innovative with your ezine. Brainstorm on catchy column titles. Give focus on your ezine. And then write your first ad!

When I write ad copy for my ezines, I get liberal with the use of exclamation marks (!). As a result, the copy becomes animated, lively, excited. Its one way to get your potential subscribers interested in signing up for your ezine!

Strategy # 2: Motivate Them Into Subscribing!

Lets face it, everyone wants to earn money. In the case of my ezine for writers, writers will certainly want to get paid for writing! (I know I do!) For the second issue, I used another tactic for promoting it.

Two days before the second issue was due out, I DOUBLED my subscribership! The reason for the surge? A catchy subject and an even more motivating ad!

>> Subject: Got a verse? Sell it as a greeting card!

Body:

Veteran greeting card writer Susan Miller-Louden says, "Ive made as high as $50/word. A writer can really get spoiled in this genre, because not only is it "fun, immediate" writing, it also pays quite well!"

You will notice several things in the above ad. One, it used a testimonial from an expert on the subject (a veteral greeting card writer laying the facts out about greeting card writing). Two, it gave a concrete monetary figure (how lucrative greeting card writing really is). And three, the ad finished off with the title of the article, with a date on how soon they will read the article so they can start earning money from greeting card writing too!

Give potential subscribers a reason why they should subscribe to your publication and then emphasize that reason in your ad!

And another thing, this strategy will work even more if youre offering something original -- a unique idea or an article that hasnt appeared anywhere else!

Strategy # 3: Promote Two Or Three Days Before Your Issue Is Due!

Promoting your ezine two or three days before the latest issue will be out is one of the most effective strategies I have used. For one, your potential subscribers wont wait a long time before receiving their first issue. In some cases, if you promoted your ezine real early, the tendency of potential subscribers is to put off subscribing to your ezine. THEN theyll forget doing it altogether.

Combining this strategy with either the first two strategies will surely give you results!

Strategy # 4: Other Ezines Arent Competition!

By the fourth issue of my ezine, Ive already secured 233 subscribers.

One of the reasons for this is the recommendation or endorsement of another ezine publisher with by far a higher subscribership than I do. From that recommendation, he brought me 30 new subscribers.

The other bulk of new subscribers came from another promotion I did using Strategy # 2 and # 3:

>> Do you have a manuscript and are you looking to have it published online? Where do you start? How do you submit? Most importantly, what doTHEY, the publishers and editors, want?

Strategy # 5: Indirect Promotion Works Too!

By the fifth issue, I had 297 subscribers. And I didnt do any direct promotion! So where did the 64 new ones come from?

I attribute these to several reasons:

>> Letters/comments I wrote to other ezine publishers bearing my URL and sign up info, which they published in their ezines;

>> Articles I wrote about the craft of writing that appeared in several writers ezines;

>> Increasing popularity of my ezines website, resulting on sign ups from visitors;

>> Inclusion of my ezine, URL, and sign up links in the Resources Column of several ezines for writers.

Strategy # 6: Keep On Building!

Yes, this is an extra strategy and one that tells you to keep on building your subscribership by using the strategies I outlined above. Combine them for maximum results. You may very well end up developing your own effective strategy so dont be afraid to experiment!
